Women's Voices - The Evolution of the Female Voice
There is evidence that since the 19 twenties, women's voices have dropped more than half an octave. The drop in female pitch parallels and was almost certainly driven by sismic changes in women's social status over the last century. And you do see it reflected in the movies at the time, in particular, lor and mcall,. because the director, howard hawkes, just fascinated by the sound of deep voiced, authoritative women. We're talking now about the second world war time.
