The Rise and Fall of Mungo Park
In early 1796 Park and his caravan came to the town of T.C. The blacksmith Tammy, who had accompanied Park on the entire journey thus far, had a reunion with his family. In late December he would find himself robbed again, but he didn't have a lot remaining. At this point Park found himself reliant on the kindness of strangers. He couldn't trade any of his remaining valuables for food, because he feared that he would just end up being set upon again once people realized that he had stuff worth stealing. It was around this time that Park also noted the increasing influence of Islam.
