When the Gawker verdict came out that they had been bankrupt, that was the first time I think I had ever heard of Peter Teal. He is an interesting person who's also willing very clearly to make big, public, very unpopular bets. His support of the now current president on sites like Hacker News tore the Silicon Valley world apart. It cost him a huge amount of his reputation and his career.
