The roots of the cuisine are found in Taoism and also like the teachings of Confucius and Mencius. But then around 280, that's when Buddhism entered the country. And I think the Chinese interpretation of the teachings were that you cannot kill animals or harm life,. Or it's like if something has been killed or ready, like I think monks used to like beg for alms, you can partake of the food.
