By 1900, rabbits were in all or part of every Australian state. That's a pretty explosive population growth for any animal to completely engulf a continent. The rabbits became prey for other introduced species like wild cats, wild dogs, foxes and dingoes. They could also completely strip an area of anything they would eat - including food crops that were intended for people.
