The Different Approaches to Learning in the Craft Situation

I think of myself as a crafts person. I am originally an architect and what I enjoyed most about architecture was the crafting of the drawings that I produced. And so part of my work is that exploration of the complexity of knowledge involved in making something and designing it. Leonardo da Vinci made that distinction between manual labor and intellectual work and that distinction to between craft and fine art. It has been kind of relegated to the sidelines, it has been marginalized or steered into when people feel they are not academically inclined. But for far too long we have made that division between kind of manual Labor and intellectual work which goes back centuries.
