The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth

A former journalist and novelist named Frederick Forsyth plotted a coup in Equatorial Guinea. The idea was to capture or kill the mad dictator and replace him with a biafrin politician who seemed amenable. It took about five months to plan and the affair was largely an excuse for the now wealthy Forsyth to live out his fantasies of being an international man of mystery.
