The Importance of Merton in the American Catholic Church

Merton's life is marked by great tragedy. You know, he lost his parents when he was very young. And then so that, and then that tragedy meets the great Catholic renewal of intellectual and liturgical life that happened in the early 20th century. So there might be some indiscretions when it comes to a false transparency, or some indiscretion when it comesto the way that he interacted with this woman. It doesn't sound like they acted out of it but it does sound like there was certainly some kind of immodesty.
