The Effects of Upper Brain Stem Arousal on Emotions

It's been known for a long time that you can demonstrate the presence of all the basic emotions in mammals that have no cortex. It's just so much more striking when you see it in a human being. These kids are fully emotionally responsive. And, and they do not have any functional cortex. So there's all sorts of lines of evidence that converge on the conclusion that the upper brain stem generates raw feeling itself.
