Using Stateless Procedures in Imperative Programming

For every single bit of state that we add, we double the total number of possible states. Complexity caused by control is basically about the order in which things happen. The difficulty is that when control is an implicit part of the language, then every single piece of program must be understood in context. It's not talked about very much in imperative programming.
