Methyl group adds to a gene. A carbon in three hydrogens gets added to your gene and gets used as a volume button almost. So the gene that's responsible for making serotonin receptors, this methyl group will attach to it in response to some sort of trauma. And it will turn the volume down on your ability to produce these receptors.
