Is There a Lot of Math in Nature?
Eugenia Chang is the author of a new book about math and its applications. She says that although we don't have a particular goal in mind, it often turns out to be amazingly useful later - sometimes much later. It sounds like nature found the applications or the platonic solids, as you call them, sooner than humans did. Eugenia: "I wish that we could do math education in such a way that everyone feels like they can experiment"
