The Government's Plan to Cut Public Sector Spending
Pay in the private sector is rising at 6.6% a year, three times as fast as public sector pay. The need to attract and retain workers is one long-term factor pushing up spending. People do want public money to be allocated to health and social care. All of these things are things that people seem to want - there's little case for government not addressing those preferences.
