Trust in politicians is at a low ebb and the health of UK democracy matters as much to voters as issues such as crime and immigration. Despite this, public confidence in UK institutions only seems to be decreasing. A recent study published by Unherd showed that only 24% of people say they have confidence in the government compared to 29% pre-pandemic. Only Egypt has less trust in the media than us - 13%.
