How My Damn Changed Ukrainian Society
Saskin: Maidan gave me a chance to reflect on my own family history. I grew up speaking Russian surrounded by all things Russian and thinking that somehow being Ukrainian is nice but this is something you know not important. Ukrainians were always depicted as someone funny in Russian movies, Russian literature. So it was a moment when I realized that for example my grandfathers were speaking Ukrainian but somehow I speak Russian and I decided to switch to speaking Ukrainian. It wasn't about ethnicity of course, I mean one of my grandmothers is Russian but it was about realizing that we are Ukraine and who we are and that we have each other and Saskin can build a country together.
