The End of Democracy in Afghanistan, Is It?
It's an open question whether the afghans ever really got democracy, kind of over the last 20 years at all. I think the two thousand and four election a that put karzi into power was probably the freest and the fairest ah. Every squent national level election was highly contested. But at the local level people absolutely had no democracy. People expected things to change after the united states came. They expected to be able to elect their local leaders. And that never happened as that's where hearts and minds are won.
