The Role of ACE Inhibitors in Kidney Failure

In Peds in general if they have CKD I would probably just refer them to nephrology but where I really think it comes into play is that the kind of the more you progress along the more you're at risk for certain things. The further along you get on the spectrum the more I need to start monitoring more closely for those things. So we are giving him a almost diagnosis of Alport syndrome but we're getting close there. What medications will we start out on if that was the case? Some physicians would actually consider starting an ACE inhibitor at the time of diagnosis now as long as the kid is older than age two even before the development of protonuria or reduced GFR
