We're probably at about one point two, maybe one point three degrees celsius of warming. That doesn't sound like very much, but it actually puts us entirely outside the window of temperatures that enclose the entire history of human civilization. Carbon that we burned in nineteenth century england is still warming the planet, and will warm the planet for several hundred years from now. There's a way in which we're living in a sort of eternal present of climate change where what was done 200 years ago, what's being done to day, and what will be done 50 years ago are all working together on the same time line.
