What causes inflation is deficit spending and what Powell wants Congress to do is to raise the debt ceiling so they can do more deficit spending. It makes his job of fighting inflation even harder if Powell really wanted some cooperation from Congress instead of telling them to cut spending, but he never does that. Another point that Powell made in the Q and A was that he was very happy to welcome in disinflation, which he claims we now have. He still have inflation that's too high, but by disinflation,. he means that the inflation rate is coming down.
