Is Hell a Place or a Power?

i was taught by my parents or the church i was in, that hell is actually a separation from god. And for those of us, if we were to stand unrepentantly opposed to god's kingdom, that there is judgment coming,. because god's goodness stands opposed to our sin. Do we want a communion with god, intimacy with god, life, wit him, under his authority, under his sovereign caraind with him?
