The Birthright Is a Double Prophecy
The birthright gets a double portion. With that additional portion, you're responsible for everyone else in the family that needs help. So if instead of just giving you two parts, let's give each of your two sons a part on par with their uncles. You see what he's saying there? It's not ecause you're better. It's cause you have more work to do,. More people to feed and more flocks to gather. Well, in jacob's case, he has 12 sons, but to do the math, you add another and make it 13. And then divide everything thing up into 13 parts, and joseph gets two of them.
