APO A1 is pretty highly conserved, certainly among mammals. In many lower level mammals, the primary lipoprotein is HDL. That clearly includes APO A1. Once you start getting below mammals, things change a little bit in terms of the lipoprotein metabolism. There's even HDL-type particles in much lower species.

Dan Rader is a Professor at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he conducts translational research on lipoprotein metabolism and atherosclerosis with a particular focus on the function of high-density lipoproteins (HDLs).
