The Value of Philosophy

Art has value, and yet it's hard to say what it consists in, especially given that it has no clear application. Art is inevitably an opportunity to reorganize ourselves because our ordinary scene is so much a matter of habit and a matter of sort of spontaneity. The artwork interrupts that and says, whoa, don't just rely on habit. Don't just think you know what you're seeing. Stop. Try to see me. try to make sense of this thing, which is the thing I am. If the artwork could talk, it would say, see me if you can.
