The Importance of Tacitus on the Germans

The Nazis salivated when they read of Tacitus notion of a pure race. The funny thing here is that Tacitus had actually written this work to criticize his contemporary Romans. He was going to use the Germans as some props in order to decry the declining morality of Tacitus on compatriots. In several passages, Tacitus idealizes the Germans in a Dances with Wolves type of way.
