Sperenberg airfield is a former military air base which was used by the nate to test rockets, and later by the soviet forces to land bombers and helicopters. In 19 90, for the russians were forced out of newly reunified germany, and the air base has been abandoned ever since. Scherneferd had limited room to grow, with only two runways so close together that planes have to perform a 15 degree turn when landing or taking off.
