emergence is a word that many people invoke to describe or a, a sceptic might say, to label a compex organized phenomena in the world of which it seems organized. A composed system exhibits emergence when its causal activity is not exhausted or fixed by entirely fixed by the activity of its parts and their interrelations. And then emergence is relevant to free will, since human persons appear to be composite systems, organically composed systems.
