Ep. 679: High(per) Velocity Stars
Astronomy Cast

The Dynamics of Open Clusters
High velocity stars are the ones that are going 50 to 100 kilometers per second, faster than the average where they are. They're actually moving 10% to 30% the speed of light. Everything is roughly moving at the same speed in the hundreds of kilometers per second range. You get regional differences because you'll have like this open cluster is moving together. This is where you get the really cool dynamics that you can start to see.
