The Globe Theater

In 1574, the city of London banned plays from being performed within the city limits. Actors like the Earl of Leicester's men were then forced to look outside of the city for a place to perform. In 1576, James Burbage and his brother-in-law pooled their money and they built a theater in the area of Shortage just to the east of town. That first theater called the theater has a direct connection to the Globe theater associated with Shakespeare.
