The Origins of Legal Systems

Do you think that most or all legal systems share some kind of common origin? I heard a different scholar hypothesize without evidence because evidence only goes so far back. Some well-known examples, particularly from medieval Europe. The Germanic tribes that came in following the fall of the Western Roman Empire had largely relied upon system of feuding and compensation to resolve disputes among them.
