Mentorship, i think, is really overrated. Most of the accomplilishments in human history are done by young people. It's rare to have na great scientific breakthrough later. In works of art, they can get better overtime,. Like in politics and war, et cetera. But certainly in doing base activities, if you're playing basket ball, you'd better get started young.
