That the train was no longer stopping at our stop, and neither of us felt that we had been given adequate sort of warning' 'So I got out my watercolours and began a study of what I believe to be the greatest subject, the humble poppy,' he says. He adds: 'I stepped off that train with a scene from a poppy field in the Loire Valley... Which I had imagined, because I'm in a zen state.'
