Quine was skeptical that there were these propositional meanings for a variety of reasons. He saw meaning as determined ultimately by the ways in which it's put to use. Gavagai, I don't think he would quite agree because the example we're given is as of a rabbit. What you and I would see is the cute fluffy animal.
