The reds four p project started in 19 89, and it came out of the infectious disease concerns of the 19 80 with regard to blood safety. H i v being a retrovirus, the the study was term the retrovive retro virus epidemilogy donor study. We were looking at epidemilogy of all infectious agents of concern. One of the contract requirements was to enroll people who ere identified as h i v positive, and learned why they donated blood.
