What Makes the Internet So Complex?

The Internet gives us a capability that I don't think has really been fully grasped for mini-to-mini communication. So we have something that humans used to have very early in their history when humans lived in very small groups and so could essentially do all to all communication. But then that was lost. For a very long time, communication was largely top-down in societies. The Internet allows us as a very large population to engage in a kind of communication that we haven't been able to engage in for a long time. And I think we're feeling our way and trying to understand what that kind of communication capability is like.
