Bode is disarmed at that point. He would have killed Cal if that shot fired from his blaster, Cal would be dead. So that's why he did it with like, you know, like, extreme prejudice. Kata's whole perception of the incident is like, does she think her dad became a monster? Does she hold some sort of grudge against Cal for doing this? I think it's up for your own interpretation.
