The Effects of Nitrates in the Sea of Marmara in Turkey

The sea of marmara is fed by waste water run off from like 20 million people. This can lead to a chain reaction in which the pito plancton sort of become stressed. Under conditions of stress, they exude mucus, or this mucus like material that, of course, can lead to these runaway conditions. Winds and storms could normally come in to rough up waters and essentially tear up, churn up, forming strings and clouds of mucus. But if the weather is especially calm, that doesn't happen. For example, we talked about how this was historically observed in the adriatic sea. The adriatic Sea tends to be relatively calm.
