Claudius knew without a doubt that he was next. He was related by blood to the dead emperor Caligula. The pretorians would soon kill caligula's wife and his infant daughter. If they'd kill a baby to extinguish that blood line, they would have no problem killing Claudius. So he hides behind a curtain. But he forgot one important detail when choosing the hiding spot. His feet were sticking out. And suddenly, a pretorian guardsman, who was prowling the palace grounds, yanks open the curtain. This is it. He's about to die.
