Cameron Pfeiffer: It's actually a very random story full of coincidences, the sort of two major components maybe depending on how you think of it. The first answer is that in the beginning of grad school, I lived with Rachel Meager, who Bayesian people might be very familiar with. And then through her, I met Jim Savage, who at the time was doing a lot of very cool work with Stan. We wound up talking about BLP, for example, which led to some work on developing a Bayesian approach to random proficient slojit.
