The Super Linear Scaling of Cities
From about 1800 onwards, we've had this extraordinary expansion that is for the most part been faster than exponential. And that all is derived from super linear scaling. The super linear scaling has its origins in the positive feedbacks in social networks. These are things that are quite different in biology than they are in the socioeconomic systems that we have evolved.
