Yorgas says he finds it disturbing that the family don't even try to help their son. Yorgas: There was no reason for him to be so self abnegating, except if there was something about him that was feeding off of this feeling of duty or obligation,. Or am i being too hard on gregor? I don't know if he was conscious of how much he liked it, but he certainly played that role. Something kept him working, and something kept him miserable. He didn't quit his job.
