The Power of Legalization in Abortion Stories
Ken Loach's Up the Junction, based on Nell Dunne's book, did make a difference to public opinion in Britain. It made a difference for two reasons: 10 million people watched it and the Wednesday play just after the nine o'clock watershed on national television. But I don't think it's just about the numbers of people it reached - it's also about the form of realism that Loach used which is a mix of fictional realism and documentary techniques.
