Ramero never used the word zambi to describe the creatures from his landmark film. Instead, they were ghouls, a creature borrowed from arabian folklore. The ancient irish called them the niav mari, meaning the un dead. In germany, they are the vider ganger, the one who walks again. And in nordic mythology, they're called the drager.
