The Middle School ELA Teacher
The ELA department has a big role to play in teaching general reading strategies and helping kids with language generally in text. But you also have this specialized responsibility for things like a literary close read. A lot of times the ELA teachers are the ones who get the lowest readers or given responsibilities for, you know, perhaps they get a class or two of kids who are just struggling readers. And so they really have some incredible power to make a big difference in these kids' lives.
