The Importance of Personal Experience
Many conspiracy theorists feel superior when they believe in UFOs. They're the goats and the other sheep, right? And it's been identified as one of the psychological rewards associated with conspiratorial belief. But that's a bit different when you're talking about a very personal, even spiritual transformational experience which is a key part of your identity. For someone to deny their experience is harmful and a form of aggression against those who have experienced it.
