I'm Spiritual, Not Religious, Right?

As a teenager, I would say things like I'm spiritual, not religious. How did you start getting interested in Eastern religions? Was that for the same reason? Spiritual, what not religious as it were? Certainly. They seem to have a lot of technical sophistication and rigor to their practice without having any ethical demands.
