The Messiah Grows Up in Nazareth
Matthew says he anchors each tragedy and disappointment with a quotation of the scriptures. He's not actually quoting a line out of any of the prophets, he's quoting an idea. There was a famous Old Testament prophecy in the prophet Isaiah chapter 11. The Messiah came as like fresh, gross, like a little sprouting tree growing up out of an old stump.
