Do Not Set Your Heart on These Dangerous Things
The ancient Nazarites abstain from everything that could make them drunk, but even for soot grapes and vinegar. It is no sin to do such things, but it is a sin to set one's heart on them. What a waste it is to sow in the garden of our hearts the seeds of such vain and foolish affections which crowd out virtuous impulses. Man's heart cannot run after God readily swiftly and lightly, which is the principal aim of devotion.
