How Did We Get Here?
Doctor ben reese is an english professor at emery university and the author of wild nights, how taming sleep created our restless world. He says we've been fascinated by sleep for millennia, but the way we manage it has changed a lot over time. For most of human history, sleep was religious matter, not a medical one. In the 18 hundreds, sleep started going through a big shift. It wasn't about sins and witches and visions any more. It became a medical problem. Doctor reese looked closely at the story of one woman, jane rider, who experienced this change first hand.
