The Paradox of Learning in a Disabled Community
When I was 17 I went on a trip to Israel for five weeks called the Brompton Youth Fellowship it was one of the first times in my life where I experienced a sustained love of learning as opposed to reading something to demonstrate comprehension or pass the test. When I came back from this immersive five-week trip of learning every day with peers who were curious and also love learning it was a bit of a shell shock going back to my hometown. As I've got an older in some ways I felt increasingly lonely by virtue of my individuation and in other ways I feel increasingly connected by virtue of that solitude.
