The Importance of Activating the Schema in Therapy

Sally Kohn: You talk a lot in your book about the importance of activating the schemas. And you're sort of in this example in the therapy room, activating it, but sort of in a really different way than it happened when the schemas were initially developed. So in this very caring, careful way, because a lot of learning can happen when there is some activation. But if there's too much activation, it's a lot harder for people to perform.Kohn: This is the challenge for the therapist to balance the therapy relationship in a way that always keeps the client in the tolerance window.
